Syncopate is a Movement and Music Get-together, by artists, musicians, and anyone who finds joy in watching, or listening – and especially people who want to see what’s out there, so they can find a genre, or studio to join.
None of the performers are paid for their efforts – they all give freely of their time, effort, expertise, and energy – the eventual goal of Syncopate is to become big enough to sponsor a student of The Dance to travel internationally to further their dance education. It’s a big goal – and everyone’s working towards the day when a deserving dancer will realize the dream.
Last year’s Syncopate was called Syncopate: “The Beginning”, it was a roaring success, and it set the stage for the idea to grow: Syncopate’s participating studio count has doubled to year 2. This year’s Syncopate is called “The Gathering.” The event coincides with the beginning of Spring, a time of celebration, joy, and getting yourself and your family out of the house, and back in circulation!
The name – The Gathering – is more than the Second Syncopate: here will be a change in terms of performances. This year, will be the gathering of the groups – studio’s will bring the vitality, colors and energy of troupes to the Syncopate stage. With Syncopate The Gathering, we are also getting closer to the real essence of Syncopate – The participating studios are invited to present workshops on the Saturday and Sunday – which now gives us 28 individual workshops – on everything from Gypsy dance to making your own authentic dance costume. The prices of these workshops are kept to a definite minimum, to allow anyone and everyone to attend as many workshops as they choose.

Bookings are also open if you wish to have a stall at the event: we are hosting a food stall already, but, if that is your forte – please contact the organizers to arrange for your stall to be at Syncopate II too.
Syncopate II Workshops
The online workshop booking form can be completed here.
- Pre-bookings will cost R80 per workshop.
- On-the-day drop-ins will cost R100.
If you attend 6 or more workshops over the course of the week-end, you qualify for a Syncopate Certificate, nogal laminated, free of charge, that lists your attendance to your various workshops.
Syncopate II Show Tickets

There are 2 shows – on the Saturday, and the Sunday evenings.
You can attend workshops, and still be in time for the performances.
The show starts at 16:30, with the doors opening at 16:00 already on both days.
Ticket prices are as follows:
Adults: over 12 and under 65, R50
Other adults: (under 12 and over 65), R20.
No seats are reserved, please fight your way open to the front, and look intimidating. Sit squarely on your seat, and do not fall for the “There’s free food in the back” trick. There will be eats and drinks and funky trinkets on sale during the day, and the breaks in the show.
